EMICA, the result of the metal and time
An industrial revolution was expected in the years to come. In the Basque Country we had the metal that always contributed, along with the stone, to the forging of our firm and robust character. Millennial was the knowledge and the ways in which we used, allocated, forged it and combined it.
And if that were not enough, we also had at our feet a port with intense activity for seven centuries, oriented towards Europe, a stone's throw from the main European markets, open to the Atlantic with two main routes to Africa and America, and taylor made ships, suitable for a brave Cantabrian sea without which we would not be who we are.
We did not have at hand, however, all the technologies that the next decades were going to demand, so, faithful to their entrepreneurial DNA, many Basque businessmen went out to look for them in more advanced countries.
That was the case of "El Material Industrial, Compañía Anónima", EMICA, which was founded at the end of 1899 in Bilbao, as an initiative of two historically enterprising families.
Dedicated initially to the trade of centrifugal pumps, industrial ventilation and machinery in general, soon began the manufacture of centrifugal pumps and ventilation, with German technology of international prestige and already having its own patents.
Emica survived two world wars, one civil and some cold, several global crises, different regimes. Years of gold and years of lead.
In all those decades it belonged to large multinationals and returned on several occasions to its family origin.
Always disputed. Always desired
Today, that company that was born 120 years ago in Bilbao, is present in more than 40 countries and legendary is already the characteristic robustness and reliability of its pumps, built with the same metal that made our swords and harpoons, ships and trains, cranes and bridges ...all famous worldwide.
Emica is one of the symbols that survived the memorable past of mining, the omnipresence of iron that was transformed into “Altos Hornos de Vizcaya” and allowed the development of our industry and our country.
Today, tools have evolved, the market is more demanding, competitors are already a multitude ..., but basically, we continue to make our pumps in the same way, with the same metal, with the mastery and craftsmanship inherited despite the turmoil of the century that we have to live.
We are the result of metal and time.
We are Emica Pumps, experts in pumping since 1899.
